Thursday evening the touring exhibition “14x14 – Survey of the Danube Region. Individual Views. Positions of Contemporary Art” was inaugurated in the Museum of Contemporay Art of Vojvodina in Novi Sad. donumenta celebrated the event in grand style.

The Museum, a Cubist-building located close to the pedestrian way of Novi Sad was fully illuminated on Thursday. Almost 200 visitors gathered from the stairs to the first floor, where over 300 square meter, donumenta show-cased the Exhibition.

In presence of Sanja Kojić Mladenov, director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina, and Vesna Latinović, the organiser of the Festival “Danube Dialogues 2014”, illustrated the unique concept of the exhibition to Regina Hellwig-Schmid.

Through the individual photographic perceptions of the artist and other photographers from different countries of the Danube Region, the exhibition “14 x 14” managed to showcase an aesthetic map of Eastern and West European special resemblances. It allows a multi-faceted conglomerate of contemporary intelligences, insights, references, intersections, that concern immediately and directly with people living in this region. donumenta provides special attention to the art-scene in this region.

Dr Matthias Müller-Wieferig, Head of the Goethe Institute in Belgrade affirms: “Donumenta does not only appear as a promoter of art and culture, but also as a culture-messenger from Regensburg, that given its importance, represents an ideal partner from Bavaria in the artistic and cultural development of Serbia”.

Sanja Kojić Mladenović finally emphasised, how she actually could reflect the autonomy of the region of Vojvodina in the activities of donumenta: “Vojvodina is a home for many nations in Europe. The Danube, that almost bypasses our Museum, represents their connecting element. In that lays the understanding of donumenta from Regensburg as mirror of our common understanding as European Danube Region”.

With their new creations both Biljana Djurdjević and emerging artist Andrea Palašti provided an extraordinary contribution to the exhibition. Ms Djurdjević displays her large sized painting “Dark is the Forest” from year 2012 as animation newly developed and confronts the observers with a colossal two-part video projection. “The dark forest is an allegory from our inner world, where we live, irregardless of space and time. It represents whereupon we hope and in front of what we are afraid and what for us is buried. Disbelief, fear and hopes create and establish this inner world, where emotions inflame, on which we often deceive.”

The foyer of the donumenta exhibition dominates the installation of Andrea Palašti, born in Novi Sad in 1982. She set the family at the centre of her work and impresses with her touching manner.

“Danube Dialogues 2014” count 12 exhibitions altogether. Together with the exhibition of Donumenta, in other Galleries in Novi Sad it is possible to visit numerous creations from Artist from Danube neighbouring countries.

A symposium, a performance “Think-Tent” from Natasha Ciča, and other occurrences, taking place in town until 24th September, completes the exhibition programme.
