“14x14 – Survey of the Danube Region. Individual Views. Positions of Contemporary Art” 28th of August – 24th of September 2014; Novi Sad, Serbia

On invitation of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina, donumenta focuses on Novi Sad in Serbia. From the 28th of August till the 24th of September it showcases the photographic and animation works of art of the emerging talents from the Danube Region under the formula “14x14 – Survey of the Danube Region. Individual Views. Positions of Contemporary Art”. The exhibition, which had begun in 2012 in Regensburg and then was shown in the Edwin Scharff-Museum of Neu-Ulm (2014), has now reached its third station.

Fourteen internationally renowned artists, sculptors, painters, installation and media performers as well as a photographer show snapshots of realities, experiences, utopias from their native lands. Each artist shares two of their photos. This work originated from the invitation of the curator Regina Hellwig-Schmid: “The formula “14x14 – Survey of the Danube Region” emanates from our call to the European people, who chose to elect art as their parameter, to share, acknowledge and reflect an own example of Danube individual, European and global truth and vision”.

A very special appreciation is given to Biljana Djurdjević, a world famous and successful Serbian painter, born in 1973, who openly displays her animation work in a separate space in the exhibition. At the centre stays her large sized painting “Dark is the Forest” from year 2012, that was newly developed as animation and through which she confronts the observer with his/her own deep fears, mythological references and comprehensive archaic scenarios. The 1982 born artist from Novi Sad Andrea Palašti exhibits her installation from the series “Home workouts”.

The exhibition “14x14 – Survey of the Danube Region” developed by donumenta was sponsored by the Government of Bavaria. It celebrated its 10th anniversary of intercultural commitment to the artists from the Danube Region in 2012 in Regensburg. At the centre, lays the development of international exhibition, curated in close cooperation with museums, galleries, artists and their claims in the EU macro-region. In 2011 donumenta was engaged in the nation-wide festival of art and culture in Serbia, which lasted several weeks.

The exhibition in Novi Sad is complemented by a symposium on “Art and Crisis”, which focuses on ideas and possibilities of exchange in the Danube basin was curated by the Vesna Latinović. The event takes place on Wednesday, the 26th of August 2014 and is participated by Regina Hellwig-Schmid.

14x14 - Einladung
