Eszter Dalma Muray: "All my rivers"

Idea/ Motivation

  • Over 2850 km, the Danube presents itself in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and flow speeds. From insignificant to dramatic, it alternates between slow meanders and fast-flowing gestures. Krassimir Terziev: "Storm Door"

Idea/ Motivation

  • Storm Door is a four-panel revolving door based on the shape of a cross. The cross is the basic form used in the construction of many cities, which Terziev thus takes up in his work. With this work, Terziev offers people new perspectives on themselves and the history of Regensburg. Viewers are reflected in the revolving doors and recognize evidence of their own history behind them - historic buildings and historic pavement. Moving the revolving door creates a new form of orientation and allows aspects of history and the present to merge.

Jelena Gajinovic: "Power Heart"

Idea/ Motivation

  • Serbian artist Jelena Gajinovic draws parallels between the imagery of medieval Minne and the heart code from smartphone chats. The woodcut Lady Venus and the Lover, made in 1495 by Master Caspar, inspired her to translate the medieval symbols into the present day. Beyond the symbolism of love, Gajinovic's work on rotating steals shows what an important role images have played and continue to play in communication.

Dimitar Solakov: "Historical Absense - Future Presence"

Idea/ Motivation

  • The interplay between nature and man is the basis for Dimitar Solakov's installation on the banks of the Danube in the immediate vicinity of the Stone Bridge in Regensburg. Using the example of the sturgeon, he addresses a historical-ecological topic and visualizes the connection between floods, changes in the ecosystem and the occurrence of the sturgeon species Glattdick. Due to overfishing and low water levels, this fish species is almost non-existent on the Upper Danube. Solakov's neon installation shows the sturgeon on historical flood lines.

Katharina Cibulka: "Für Margretha, Johanna, Sophia …"

Idea/ Motivation

  • The right of every woman to control her own body is a universal human right. Temporary installation on the 13th span of the Stone Bridge. This is where the “water punishments” took place until around 1600. Women were usually sentenced to death by drowning. Cibulka thus links the medieval practice of capital punishment with life bars that line the banks of the Danube today - two diametrically opposed perspectives on life. In her 19-metre-long sculpture, she transforms the ring at the end of the pole into a coat hanger - a symbol of a dangerous abortion when pregnant women are forced into illegitimacy. Cibulka's work is to be interpreted in the context of current setbacks for women's rights - such as the new ban on abortion in the USA.

Tonka Maleković: "Compositions of Flow"

Idea/ Motivation

  • Compositions of Flow represents a connection between artistic representation and scientific research. In this conceptual work, Maleković, with academic support from Sophia Freidhoff, explores the challenges of the recent waves of migration in the Danube region. Alexandru Raevschi: "Invasion of Interpretations"

Idea/ Motivation

  • During his stay in Regensburg, Alexandru Raevschi explored the question of how history and the present relate to each other in the World Heritage city and what significance the historical heritage actually has for Regensburg residents today. He literally holds up a mirror to the city: Mirrored cuboids on the north-east corner of the Roman legionary camp wall give passers-by the chance to connect history and the present, to perceive and experience themselves as part of it. Anyone walking past the installation and looking at it could see themselves, as well as the newly built Museum of Bavarian History behind them and the original ashlars of the Roman wall in front of them. History thus appears as a construct, composed of different parts and as the result of one's own perspective and lifeworld.

Karl Notburga: "Parabelle"

Idea/ Motivation

  • The monopteros is an ideal circular form in architecture and encounters a contradiction in Kepler's work, as the astronomer Kepler discovered the elliptical orbits of the planets. The ellipse “Parabelle” is the central element here and could be described as a correction or commentary on the round monument. For the artist, the ellipse is a circle that has picked up speed. It is a metaphor for thinking in motion, for rethinking. It is not just about planetary orbits, but also about a view of the world that has been turned on its head. Kepler is a good example of this.

Klára Orosz: "The Black Tower"

Idea/ Motivation

  • The design of a new interpretation of the Black Tower on the north side of the “Steinerne Brücke”, which no longer exists. The tower was part of Regensburg's border fortifications and customs station and was demolished in 1810 after being shelled by Napoleonic and Austrian troops. In 2002, the foundation walls of the building were discovered and its exact position, length and width were determined. Klára Orosz worked with the original dimensions of the black tower, which was 20 meters high. Unfortunately, this design could not be realized.
